General Dynamics Names GM Exec Barra To Board

Defense contractor has named Mary T. Barra, General Motors Co.'s senior vice president of global product development, to its board of directors.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) -- Defense contractor General Dynamics Corp. said Friday that it has named Mary T. Barra, General Motors Co.'s senior vice president of global product development, to its board of directors.

Barra, 49, will join the board effective March 15. Barra leads the design, engineering, program management and quality of vehicles for GM's 11 brands around the world, and is a member of the automaker's executive committee.

"As a manufacturing-based company, we welcome the insight that Mary will bring to the board from her broad experience in manufacturing, engineering and innovation," Jay L. Johnson, General Dynamics' chairman and CEO, said in a statement.

Shares of the Falls Church, Va., company fell $2.56, or 3.3 percent, to $75.10 in afternoon trading. The shares have traded between $55.46 and $79 over the past year.
