Mercedes-Benz Sales Up 23 Percent

Germany's Daimler AG says January sales of its Mercedes-Benz luxury cars brand increased 23 percent on the year from 67,000 vehicles to 82,700.

BERLIN (AP) -- Germany's Daimler AG says January sales of its Mercedes-Benz luxury cars brand increased 23 percent on the year from 67,000 vehicles to 82,700.

The company, based in Stuttgart, said Thursday the growth was driven by double-digit increases in its three most important markets -- Germany, the U.S. and China -- leading the company to its "best January sales result ever."

It said January sales in China rose by a staggering 87 percent to 15,600 units, in Germany they were up 20 percent to 11,100 cars, and U.S. sales grew by 11 percent to 16,400 vehicles.
