Production Of Nissan NV Begins In Mississippi

Nissan Motor Co. officially began production of its NV commercial van on Wednesday -- with the first vehicle going to Habitat for Humanity in Jackson.

CANTON, Miss. (AP) -- Nissan Motor Co. officially began production of its NV commercial van on Wednesday -- with the first vehicle going to Habitat for Humanity in Jackson.

Nissan's assembly plant at Canton underwent a two-year, $118 million expansion to build the new vehicle, which is expected to be in dealer showrooms in February.

The NV marks Nissan's entry into the commercial vehicle market in the United States and Canada.

The plant, which opened in 2003, employs 3,300 workers. It also produces the Nissan Altima sedan, Titan pickup and Armada SUV.
