BAE Systems Inc. said Wednesday it has won a $629 million defense contract to upgrade military vehicles

HOUSTON (AP) -- BAE Systems Inc. said Wednesday it has won a $629 million defense contract to upgrade military vehicles.

The contract calls for BAE Systems to upgrade 1,700 Caiman vehicles for the U.S. Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Joint Program Office.

The company will integrate a refurbished and improved armored capsule from a Caiman with a high-power automotive power train, chassis and independent suspension.

The chassis will be built in Sealy, Texas and delivered beginning in November.
