Spartan Motors, Isuzu Team Up To Build Chassis

Isuzu Commercial Truck of America Inc. and Spartan Motors have formed a partnership to assemble a chassis for Isuzu, with production to begin in the second quarter of 2011.

CHARLOTTE, Mich. (AP) -- Spartan Motors Inc. and Isuzu Commercial Truck of America Inc. have formed a partnership to assemble a chassis for Isuzu, the companies announced on Thursday.

Under the partnership, Spartan will build Isuzu's gasoline-powered N-series chassis, a low-cab-forward truck chassis powered by a General Motors Co. engine. Production will begin in the second quarter of 2011.

Separately, the companies also said a Spartan subsidiary is teaming up with Isuzu to develop a commercial van using Isuzu's diesel powertrain.

Shares of Spartan Motors rose 36 cents, or 5.6 percent, to $6.83 in afternoon trading Friday. The stock has ranged from $4.69 to $11.75 over the past year.
