Toyota Plant In W.Va. To Produce RAV4 Engines

Automaker says the transmission and engine plant in Buffalo, W. Va., will begin producing engines for the RAV4 sport utility vehicle beginning in December.

BUFFALO, W.Va. (AP) -- Toyota Motor Corp. says its West Virginia plant will begin producing engines for the RAV4 in December.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia spokeswoman Sandra Maynard says the transmission and engine plant in Buffalo is expected to produce about 2,000 six-cylinder engines a month.

The sport utility vehicle is assembled at Toyota's plant in Woodstock, Ontario. Maynard says that plant will continue to receive some engines from the company's operations in Japan.

Maynard said Wednesday that the Buffalo plant is operating under capacity and no new jobs will be created.

The plant employs 1,050 people.
