GM Unveils New Solstice Coupe, Production Begins In '09

Automaker’s new Pontiac Solstice Coupe has been unveiled at the New York International Auto Show and will begin production early next year in Delaware.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The new Pontiac Solstice Coupe has been unveiled at the New York International Auto Show.

Solstice Lead Designer Bruce Kosbab says the new car will be built alongside the existing Solstice roadster at the General Motors plant near Wilmington, Del.

Since the new model is a derivative of the roadster, Kosbab says it makes sense to build it on the same line at the plant on Boxwood Road.

GM has already announced plans to move Delaware production of the Solstice and the Saturn Sky to Kentucky in 2012.

Boxwood Road began producing the original Solstice in the middle of 2005. Kosbab says the new model has more storage space and a removable hardtop. Production will begin early next year.
