If It Ain’t Broke: Timken Extends Joe Gibbs Racing Agreement

Timken had been working with the racing group for the past three years with powertrain and driveline performance.

Timken Co. said Wednesday it has extended its agreement with Joe Gibbs Racing as a technical partner of NASCAR. Timken had partnered with Joe Gibbs Racing for the past three years, focusing on powertrain and driveline performance.

Under the agreement, Timken will handle product development and technical engineering for the multiple Joe Gibbs Racing team operations. That includes the Nextel Cup Series, in which the “Car of Tomorrow” design will have its March debut.

The “Car of Tomorrow” design aims to improve driver safety, performance, competition and cost-management.

"As the inherent challenges of the Car of Tomorrow materialize, we expect to lean heavily on Timken and its technical expertise for solutions," said J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing.

"We value our relationship with Joe Gibbs Racing because it allows us to take what we have learned at the racetrack under high speed and tough conditions and leverage that knowledge into new solutions for all of our customers' benefit," said Alastair R. Deane, Timken senior vice president – technology. "Our involvement in the sport translates into the creation of real value for our automotive, industrial and steel customers as we all have mutual challenges related to products that handle heat, speed and wear."
