Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. spent $560,000 lobbying the federal government in the second quarter on defense spending, pension funding and a proposed new headquarters in its home city of Akron, Ohio, among other issues, according to a disclosure statement.
That's down from the $860,000 it spent lobbying the government in the first quarter. But it's an increase from the $460,000 it spent lobbying in the same quarter last year.
The company said it lobbied both houses of Congress on an appropriations request for development of fuel-efficient military tires, as well as a request for development of jet fighter aircraft tires.
In addition, Goodyear lobbied Congress and the Treasury Department on pension funding requirements for retirees, automotive safety legislation and extending a suspension on tariffs for tire-making machinery.
Goodyear also lobbied the federal government on its new proposed headquarters in Akron, called the Riverwalk project.
Shares of Goodyear closed Friday at $11.16, down 37 cents.
