Iowa Rally Supports Corporate Jet Makers

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association says the rally will be a reminder of the jobs the industry creates in Iowa.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -- The makers of corporate jets are trying to build political support after they say their industry has been demonized by President Barack Obama

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association is organizing a rally Wednesday at the Rockwell Collins Flight Operations Center in Cedar Rapids. Spokeswoman Katie Pribyl says the rally will be a reminder of the jobs the industry creates in Iowa despite the president's "negative rhetoric."

The trade group has blasted the Obama administration's proposal to scale back tax breaks given to companies who purchase jets. In recent weeks, the president has often said "corporate jet owners" should sacrifice as part of efforts to reduce the nation's debt.

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley and Reps. Tom Latham, Leonard Boswell, Steve King and Bruce Braley are expected to attend the event.
