NASA says it has awarded a contract of up to $729 million to Hamilton Sundstrand for engineering, safety and other tasks for its space suit used on the space shuttle and International Space Station.
Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp., and its subcontractors also will perform engineering management for hardware systems used in spacewalks.
NASA announced two one-year options for support work for space shuttle spacewalks through 2012, and five one-year options for space station work from 2015 to 2020.
The Windsor Locks-based aerospace parts manufacturer has been working on space suits for NASA since the 1960s. Dan Coulom, a spokesman for the company, says these contracts will allow that work to continue for another decade.
