Industry group says shipments of general aviation aircraft were down 14.5 percent in the third quarter from the same period in 2009.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- An industry group says shipments of general aviation aircraft were down 14.5 percent in the third quarter from the same period in 2009.

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association released the quarterly figures Tuesday.

The report says shipments of planes manufactured worldwide totaled 1,357 in the latest quarter, compared with 1,588 a year ago.

Billings in the quarter totaled $13.4 billion, down 2.5 percent.

Turboprops and business jets took the biggest hits, with shipments of both falling more than 20 percent. Shipments of piston planes were down 6.6 percent for the period.
