Daimler CFO To Become EADS Chairman

Chief financial officer Uebber set to become the new chairman for European aerospace group EADS NV, the automaker said Thursday, after nominating him for the position.

FRANKFURT (AP) -- Daimler AG's chief financial officer is set to become the new chairman for European aerospace group EADS NV, the automaker said Thursday, after nominating him for the position.

Uebber, who has been CFO for Stuttgart-based Daimler since 2001, is likely to replace Reudiger Grube who is due to become chief executive of state-owned Deutsche Bahn AG in Germany.

Daimler proposed Uebber for the position because the carmaker holds a 27.5 percent stake in EADS, the parent company of Airbus, and has the right to nominate any successor.

Pierre Bayle, a spokesman for EADS, said that EADS CEO Louis Gallois would be "pleased to work with Bodo Uebber."

He said the board meeting to approve the appointment will be held soon, but he did not give a date.

Daimler's Wilfried Porth has also been appointed as a board member, which Daimler has the right to do without requiring the board's approval.
