Chinese startup Ehang has said much about its flying taxi drone since bringing a prototype to the CES show in 2016. Now the company is showing what its Ehang 184 drone is made of by releasing test flight footage with people onboard.
With several companies like Airbus, Intel, Boeing and Bell Helicopter perusing these futuristic flying machines, it seems we’re one step closer to avoiding the congestion of city ground environments.
Made from carbon fiber and epoxy composite on an aluminum alloy frame, the Ehang 184 can reach a top speed of 80 miles per hour. It takes one hour to recharge the drone’s electric motors for a 25-minute flight.
Ehang claims testing has shown the vehicle can withstand a force seven typhoon and climb to 1,000 feet. The company has an agreement to carry out testing in the state of Nevada and Dubai. Hopefully after testing and proving safety is achieved, regulations to allow the use of the taxis won’t be far behind.
