Closed Cement Factory Named Top Haunted House

The facility carries an eerie history.

An abandoned Salt Lake City factory has been named one of the best haunted houses in the U.S.

Formerly a cement factory known as Portland Cement Works, the facility carries an eerie history.

The site, built in 1890, used two coal-fueled 8 by 125-foot kilns that produced 1,200 barrels of cement per day.

It also endured several accidents and eventually closed.

The first fatality occurred in 1900 when a worker was pulled into a revolving shaft.

With no safety measures put in place, workers at the factory continued to be killed.

The site reopened as a haunted house in 2011 and is now known as Fear Factory.

The attraction consists of six buildings up to six stories high and two underground passages.
