Tesla Says It's Finally Flush with Battery Cells

While automakers have been hit hard with parts shortages, Tesla says it currently has access to all the battery cells it needs.

Supply chain challenges have impacted every industry in countless ways, so it’s nice to hear a little good news for once.

While automakers have been hit hard with parts shortages, Tesla says it currently has access to all the battery cells it needs.

Martin Viecha, the vice president of investor relations at Tesla, revealed that battery parts that have been in short supply for years are now more available.

During a presentation at a conference, Viecha reportedly said that Tesla can access all the supply it needs "for the first time I can remember.”

This includes battery cells for both its vehicle batteries and its energy storage products.

According to Business Insider, Viecha credited Tesla’s strategy of supplier diversification for the shift.

While the company once only sourced from Panasonic, it has added many others and those suppliers are ramping up production quickly.

He added that the EV industry would be able to grow only as fast as the capacity for the batteries to support it.
