Dog Food Company 'Inadvertently' Ships Recalled Food

The recall was due to potential Salmonella contamination.

Dog food company Freshpet has recalled certain products due to potential Salmonella contamination.

According to a recent report, the company had initially earmarked the products for destruction.

Instead, some were “inadvertently shipped to retailers.”

A partial lot of the brand’s “Select Fresh from the Kitchen Home Cooked Chicken Recipe” 4.5-pound bags were sent to limited Walmart and Target stores.

Freshpet has initiated a voluntary recall of these products and says consumers with these items in their possession should discard them.

So far there have been no reports of illness.

According to the FDA, “dogs with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting.”
