Applied Motion Products (Watsonville, Calif.) has announced two new products: NEMA size 23, 24 and 34 stepper motors with IP65 ratings; and NEMA size 24 integrated steppers (SWM24) for wet environments.
The new stepper motors are dust-proof and resistant to low-pressure water jets, which makes them idea for wet factory environments, such as the food and beverage industry. They also feature a nickel-plated brass cable gland, sealed laminations, a front shaft contact seal and an internal corrosion-resistant film coating. Options include an encoder housed in an IP65-rated enclosure for applications that require feedback for closed-loop operation and an advanced coating for high-humidity environments.

The SWM24 motors have been designed specifically for wet environments, with the same resistances as the motors mentioned above. Here, key features include IP67-rated M12 connectors and an engineered seal between the electronics compartment and the motor. These models use a high-performance motion controller paired with a 100 MBit Ethernet connection, with options for Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix or MicroLogix PLC connections as well. The SWM24 motor provides up to 340 oz-in torque with an auto-tuned digital current that provides smooth, quiet motion.
