Blue Origin plans to move into a 90-acre plot of land adjacent to its existing rocket manufacturing facility, according to GeekWire.
The rocket factory funded by Amazon head Jeff Bezos already owns a 750,000-square-foot factory on Space Commerce Way in the space industry complex, which includes the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. The new area will be dubbed the South Campus in connection to the existing North Campus.
Inside the new side, Blue Origin will be able to conduct various manufacturing and provisioning work in support of the existing space. The plans submitted to the St. Johns River Water Management District for construction approval also included a warehouse and room for it to expand.
On the North Campus, 270-foot and 313-foot variants of the New Glenn rockets are under construction. They are expected to fly no sooner than 2021. According to the planning documents, construction on the new buildings will begin in July, with an expected end phase in March 2020.
Blue Origin also operates rocket-building facilities in Kent, Wash., and is expected to move engine production to Huntsville, Ala., to be closer to the New Glenn manufacturing and launch sites.
