One of the biggest names in the hair dye market has announced a new line of products that eliminate a number of chemicals from its formula.

The Paris-based company was founded in 1909 by a chemist who developed his own hair dye formula and sold it to local hairdressers. Today, the company is the world’s biggest manufacturer of beauty and skincare products.

The new vegan line of dye, called Botanea, will be free from ammonia and other chemicals and aimed at younger consumers in the $11 billion global hair dye market.

“There’s a very strong demand from women to move toward healthier formulas,” Marion Brunet, the international manager of L’Oreal’s professional products division, said.

The company estimates that the market for natural beauty products is growing at about 12 percent a year and will reach $28.2 billion this year.

According to Bloomberg, L’Oreal products currently account for about one-third of the global hair-color market.
