New Heat Safety App Revamped Just In Time For Summer

According to OSHA, more than 65,000 people seek medical treatment for extreme heat exposure every year.

In June, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) joined forces to revamp an app designed to promote worker safety in high-heat conditions.

Dubbed the Heat Safety Tool, the first incarnation of the app launched in 2011. Free and available on both Android and Apple devices, the app displays the heat index, current temperature and the risk level for the user’s current location.

In addition to providing daily and hourly forecasts, the app also offers information on heat-related illness symptoms, first aid and specific precautions workers can take to work safely in extreme heat conditions.
