Lockheed Martin Announces Plan To Add 500 Jobs At Florida Plant

Currently, Lockheed Martin has more than 7,000 employees in Central Florida.

According to a report from the Orlando Sentinel, the defense contractor Lockheed Martin is planning to add 500 employees to its Missiles and Fire Control plant in Orlando.

Currently, Lockheed is seeking $3.5 million in incentive funding from the state.

The Sentinel reports that Lockheed would pay the 500 new employees an average salary of $87,000, and the hiring would be phased out over the next five years.

Most notably, the MFC plant produces the F-35 fighter jet's electro-optical targeting systems, but the locale also designs, develops and manufactures high-tech systems for combat missiles and rockets.

Lockheed Martin has more than 7,000 employees in Central Florida and is the largest defense contractor in the U.S.
