The Manufacturers Resource Center (MRC) announced that they will be hosting Mr. Harry Moser, Founder of the National Reshoring Initiative, on November 5th from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the Hanover Office Plaza, 961 Marcon Boulevard, Suite 200, Allentown, PA 18109. All Pennsylvania manufacturers are invited to attend at no cost, but registration is required at www.mrcpa.org/events or call 610-628-4640.

Most companies make sourcing decisions based on catalog or purchase price alone. This results in a 20 to 30 percent difference of actual costs. On the other hand, Mr. Moser’s firm advocates a model that considers over 30 different cost factors, many of which are currently overlooked by manufacturing buyers. When this model is used, businesses often discover that it is more cost effective to bring work back to Pennsylvania or buy from Pennsylvania-based suppliers when compared to overseas production or overseas purchases. There will also be an announcement about the creation of a website to engage and assist manufacturers in their reshoring efforts to make them aware of reshoring opportunities, facilitate buyer/supplier connections and ultimately reshore products and jobs back to Pennsylvania and the U.S.

MRC is providing this presentation with support from a “Make it in America” Challenge Grant funded in part by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Through collaborations with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Partners for Regional Economic Performance, Workforce Investment Boards, and other Industrial Resource Centers across Pennsylvania, MRC will assist companies in more accurately assessing their total cost of offshore production or foreign sourcing and help them find a Pennsylvania-based supply chain alternative.

“Manufacturing costs have shifted. Many of the cost factors that led to the offshoring of production and importing of consumer products have reversed. The opportunities are especially great now because many companies and industries offshored without accurately quantifying all of the relevant costs,” says Jack Pfunder, MRC President & CEO. “Now is the time for Pennsylvania manufacturers to capitalize on this reversal and maximize its benefits with the tools we are featuring at this event.”
