LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- More Novartis employees have lost their jobs in Lincoln as the drug maker continues to restructure its manufacturing plant there.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports (https://bit.ly/1feISMN ) the company laid off 27 and eliminated 58 open positions earlier this month.

The job cuts represent the second phase of restructuring at the plant that Novartis announced last year.

The layoffs came after the plant was shut down for a year and a half after the Food and Drug Administration found numerous quality-control problems.

Last May, Novartis laid off 72 and eliminated another 41 open positions.

A final round of layoffs is expected next year. At the end of the restructuring, Novartis plans to have eliminated 300 jobs.

The Lincoln plant will only produce Excedrin, Theraflu and the animal medicine Sentinel.
