Hawaiian Airlines Signs Aircraft Purchase Deal

Hawaiian Airlines said it has signed a purchase agreement with Airbus to buy 16 new planes as part of a plan for expanded routes between the islands and the West Coast. The Hawaiian Holdings Inc. unit said the deal comes after the airline reached key labor agreements with its pilot and flight attendant unions on the new single-aisle A321neo planes.

HONOLULU (AP) -- Hawaiian Airlines said it has signed a purchase agreement with Airbus to buy 16 new planes as part of a plan for expanded routes between the islands and the West Coast.

The Hawaiian Holdings Inc. unit said the deal comes after the airline reached key labor agreements with its pilot and flight attendant unions on the new single-aisle A321neo planes.

The planes each seat about 190 passengers.

Plans calls for the acquisition to take place between 2017 and 2020. The deal includes rights to nine additional planes.

The Honolulu-based airline plans to add 1,000 jobs in the expansion.
