Renesas To Sell Assembly Unit

Financially troubled Japanese chipmaker Renesas Electronics Corp. said Friday it will sell its Aomori Prefecture-based semiconductor assembly unit Renesas High Components Inc. to electronic component maker Aoi Electronics Co. as part of its restructuring.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Financially troubled Japanese chipmaker Renesas Electronics Corp. said Friday it will sell its Aomori Prefecture-based semiconductor assembly unit Renesas High Components Inc. to electronic component maker Aoi Electronics Co. as part of its restructuring.

All shares in Renesas High Components, owned by Renesas' subsidiary Renesas Eastern Japan Semiconductor Inc., will be transferred to Kagawa Prefecture-based Aoi at an undisclosed price, with the delivery due to be completed on Jan. 1, 2013.

Renesas said it will also sell part of the operations of Renesas Eastern Japan Semiconductor to Aoi.
