Nissan Motor Co. reported to the transport ministry Friday that it will recall for free repairs a combined 96,843 units.

TOKYO, July 27 (Kyodo) — Nissan Motor Co. reported to the transport ministry Friday that it will recall for free repairs a combined 96,843 units of the Presage minivan, the Murano sport-utility vehicle and the Teana passenger car manufactured between December 2002 and July 2007 to prevent faulty engine revolution sensors from stalling their engines.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the sensor's electronics circuits may be severed due to an insufficient resistance to heat, leading the engine to stall. A total of 283 problems associated with the faulty sensor have been reported since February 2004.

In a separate move, Nissan reported to the ministry that it will recall for free repairs a combined 3,571 units of its Civilian minibus as well as the Journey minibus it manufactured via a tie-up with Isuzu Motors Ltd. for sale with the Isuzu badge. The models to be recalled were manufactured between December 2005 and September 2010.

The ministry said the metal plate beneath these models' grills, for ushering in air to cool their engines, may develop cracks and part of the plate assembly may fall off.

Nissan has received reports of 38 malfunctioning plates, the ministry said.
