In observance of Safe + Sound Week, Aug. 13-19, the National Safety Council joins OSHA and other campaign organizers to promote the importance of employers incorporating safety and health programs into workplaces. Common elements of successful programs include management leadership, worker participation and a systematic approach to finding and fixing hazards in workplaces.
Workplace deaths have risen for the third consecutive year — totaling 5,190 in 2016. Work-related medically consulted injuries totaled 4.5 million in 2016. By looking to the data, like the new, “Top Work-Related Injury Causes” page in Injury Facts, plus a company’s own injury statistics, employers can better focus their efforts. Safe workplaces are sound businesses. Workers can show their commitment to safety by taking the SafeAtWork pledge.
