A worker was killed last week in an accident at a South Carolina BMW vehicle plant.
According to reports, on March 28 Bojan Sprah — a 45-year-old contract worker — became trapped in a lift that takes vehicles from the paint shop to the body shop. BMW first responders were assisted by the Pelham Batesville Fire Department after the accident. BMW maintains its own fire and police departments located adjacent to the manufacturing plant.
Authorities said Sprah was killed immediately as a result of massive head injuries.
"From what I've been told, there were no life-saving measures taken," Pelham Batesville Fire Department Chief Phill Jolley said. "It was an obvious fatality."
According to the company website, the BMW plant in Greer, SC manufactures several BMW X models. Sprah worked for German mechanical engineer Loedige and was contracted by BMW.
USA Today reports that Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigators were at the BMW plant the previous week to look for safety violations. OSHA is investigating the March 28 incident, which could take eight weeks to complete.
