UK Halts Chopper Bid Process

Government halted bidding process for a $9.7 billion contract after a Canadian company was found to have commercially sensitive government information.

LONDON (AP) -- The British government has halted the bidding process for a 6 billion pounds ($9.7 billion) defense contract for search and rescue helicopters after a Canadian company was found to have commercially sensitive government information.

The Department for Transport said Tuesday that police are investigating how the information found its way to CHC Helicopter of Vancouver. The company was part of the Soteria consortium which was the preferred bidder for the contract.

The agency says that Soteria had confessed to the government in December that it had received help from a member of the government's project team.

Other members of the consortium are Royal Bank of Scotland, defense and transportation contractor Thales UK and Sikorsky Aircraft Corp.
