British Officials Reject 'Boaty McBoatface'

British officials were criticized on Friday after refusing to name a polar research ship "Boaty McBoatface." The public was asked last month to submit suggestions about what to call the new vessel and vote for their favorite using an online poll. To the officials dismay, the runaway winner turned out to be "RRS Boaty McBoatface," which received more than 124,000 votes.

On Friday, the U.K.'s Department for Business, Innovation and Skills announced it was reserving its right to override the poll, choosing instead to name the ship "RRS Sir David Attenborough," after the much-loved British naturalist and broadcaster.
