The Amazon warehouse in Coppell, Texas is far from an average distribution center. This particular warehouse is populated by a fleet of robots, designed to move around the center at speeds faster than any human is capable.
According to Amazon, the robots are able to travel up to 60 football field’s worth of customer orders and are able to automatically recognize when pallets need to be loaded, lifted or stored. Dan Seidel, Amazon’s Operations Regional Director, explains that the robots used in the facility weigh “six tons and has the ability to lift 1,600 pounds of product at one given time."
The robots are not working at the factory alone either, Amazon has hired approximately 1,500 Texans to work alongside the robots in the distribution center.
