One day, could gathering supplies to build a home be as simple as hitting "Print" on your computer? Alastair Parvin and his colleagues at WikiHouse Foundation hope so.

The team has launched their website to create a space where home seekers and designers can share construction plans, and come up with innovative solutions for home-building using 3-D printed construction materials. They say the project isn't just innovative for its use of 3-D technology — it could be a cutting-edge solution for a coming "global housing crisis."

According to the UN, the world's population will reach 8 billion by 2030. Where will everyone live? WikiHouse Foundation sees their role as being a provider of housing options that are sustainable and cheap. It will indeed be interesting to see if this approach takes off not just for low-cost mass housing but as a new norm for building any home.
