One of the more shocking and unexpected concept car revealed at the Detroit Auto Show is undoubtedly the Hyundai Santa Cruz. The car isn’t quite a pickup, but isn’t just an SUV, it is what Hyundai describes as an extension to the utility of a crossover designed for millennials who want some of the utility of a truck but don’t want to deal with a full pickup.

The new unique design features a slide out rear bed that allows a driver to extend the bed of the vehicle to the size of a small pickup truck when necessary, but doesn’t take away from the compact nature of the car as it can be safely placed back into the vehicle at any time.

According to the President and CEO of Hyundai Dave Zuchowski the Santa Cruz concept “fulfills a market need not being addressed right now.” However, the car is just a concept and future production is not certain.
