ETS 2010 | Standards -- Enabling the Way to a Sustainable Future - Part 1

"Standards — Enabling the Way to a Sustainable Future" - Christine Dejong, ASTM International - Part 1 of 3 Standardization has an important role in the information infrastructure that guides design, manufacturing and trade in the global economy. ASTM International brings together diverse global stakeholders from industry, government, academic institutions and testing facilities to create consensus standards that guide research, production and use of alternative energy sources such as solar power, geothermal energy and biomass. In addition, the standards developed by ASTM committees facilitate a more sustainable environment by addressing water stewardship issues including water reclamation, quality, conservation and stewardship. Other ASTM efforts support eco-friendly homes and office buildings, enhanced waste management, new innovations in oil spill response and improved environmental assessment processes. This presentation will provide an overview of ASTM International and how ASTM standards are playing an important role in advancing needed energy innovations, improving water efficiency and providing standards solutions that will support the sustainability of our planet. A PDF of the PowerPoint can be downloaded at http://www.iapmo.org/Pages/EmergingTechnologySymposium.aspx This presentation was part of the 2010 International Emerging Technology Symposium, a two-day event that provided participants with an opportunity to view presentations and engage in timely discussions on how the water utility, manufacturing, engineering, and trade industries have found solutions through emerging technologies in the water efficiency, plumbing and mechanical industries.
