Routers With Dual VPN And Firewall Capabilities

Wed, 01/08/2014 - 2:43pm

Milwaukee, Wis. (Manufacturing.net) — The Allen-Bradley Stratix 5900 router, from Rockwell Automation, is the first product in its portfolio of network products to deliver virtual private network (VPN) and firewall capabilities simultaneously, which makes it ideal for securing cell/area zones. The router, build in conjunction with Cisco, restricts and regulates communication to help ensure a security perimeter, which is increasingly important with more network-connected devices and machines appearing on plant floors globally.

These devices can also ensure that any information exchanged between the security boundary is not tampered with. The VPN creates a secure tunnel for server-machine communications, ensuring that a single cell’s machines are not affected by others, while the firewall blocks any inputs or outputs that are not within known and approved bounds.

The ruggedized Stratix 5900 runs on Cisco IOS, and includes a wide area network port and four Ethernet ports. It has extended shock and vibration capability, is standard with a DIN rail mount and operates in a temperature range of -25 to 60°C.
