Mitsubishi Motors To Recall 700K Cars

Mitsubishi Motors Corp. said Thursday it is recalling a total of 703,888 cars for free repairs to fix a problem related to light switches.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Mitsubishi Motors Corp. said Thursday it is recalling a total of 703,888 cars for free repairs to fix a problem related to light switches.

Subject to the recall are 12 types of cars produced between July 2003 and April 2008, including eK Wagon models and Colt compact cars as well as Otti minicars made for Nissan Motor Co.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, electricity flow can be hampered, causing headlights and direction indicator lamps to go off.

A total of 332 complaints have been made, including one claiming that car headlights went off while driving at night.

Mitsubishi Motors said about 150,000 cars sold abroad will also be called back for free repairs in compliance with the regulations of respective countries.
