MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- General Mills Inc. said Tuesday it is recalling about 168 cases of its single-serve reduced-sugar Cinnamon Toast Crunch sold to restaurants and foodservice customers due to risk of salmonella exposure.

The cereal maker said Tuesday that it is making the move after a supplier recalled an ingredient due to the possible presence of salmonella.

No illnesses have been associated with the issue, and no other varieties or sizes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch or other General Mills products are affected.

The voluntary recall includes single-serve reduced-sugar Cinnamon Toast Crunch "bowlpaks" with the following "Better if Used By" dates printed on the package: 31AUG2013 or 02SEP2013.

Consumers and foodservice operators who have the products should throw them away and contact General Mills toll-free at 1-800-328-1144 for a replacement.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Signs of infection typically include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In afternoon trading, General Mills shares added 12 cents to $47.62.
