DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — The North American arm of Russian steelmaker Severstal is marking the opening of its newest steelmaking facilities.
Severstal says it has spent $1.4 billion modernizing the plant in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn. The company says the facilities now can produce a new generation of coated, high-strength steels.
The site used to be part of Ford Motor Co.'s Rouge complex. Severstal bought the facility in 2004.
Gov. Rick Snyder attended an official grand opening ceremony of Severstal Dearborn on Thursday.
According to MLive.com, Snyder said Severstal's investment is helping to build "a legacy for the next century."
