The North American industrial robotics market received $1.9 billion in orders in 2016, a record for the market.

In total, 34,606 robots were ordered in North America in 2016, an increase of 10 percent year-over-year. The automotive market was particularly active, with shipments increasing by 25 percent and orders growing by 17 percent.

Shipments to customers in North America increased by 10 percent, with the total number of robots shipped valued at $1.8 billion, according to the Robotic Industries Association, a trade association for robotics in the manufacturing and service industries.

 “Automation played a vital role in spurring economic growth in North American manufacturing and services industries in 2016,” says Jeff Burnstein, president of A3, the Association for Advancing Automation. “We anticipate accelerated growth based on smarter, more connected and more collaborative robots in the coming years.”
