US Navy Awards Raytheon $235 Million For Standard Missile-6 Production

Delivery on the missiles will occur in 2018.

Raytheon Co. was awarded a $235 million from the U.S. Navy for Standard Missile-6 production and spares, the company announced Monday.

Delivery on the missiles, which will be deployed on Aegis cruisers and destroyers to support naval fleet operations, will occur in 2018. This award will fund the fourth year of production for the multi-mission missile, Raytheon says.

The missiles will include an anti-surface capability, which was demonstrated in early 2016 off the coast of Kauai.

“The SM-6 offers three missions, making it the most affordable missile per defended area and threat set,” says Mike Campisi, Standard Missile-6 senior program director. “The SM-6 effector continues to perform beyond expectations and beyond its original mission.

Raytheon expects the final assembly of the missiles to take place at the company’s Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala.
