TreeHouse Foods Expects Downsizing To Impact 190 Jobs

TreeHouse Foods anticipates that its closure of a plant in British Columbia and cuts to another in Michigan will result in about 190 layoffs.

TreeHouse Foods, a maker of private-label food products for retailers, anticipates that its impending closure of a plant in British Columbia and cuts to another in Michigan will result in about 190 layoffs.

The company acquired the private label business of ConAgra Foods early last year and acknowledged this week that those operations are struggling. The company plans to close one of its two plants in Delta, B.C., and downsize another in Battle Creek, Mich. Both plants were formerly operated by ConAgra.

About 90 workers will be affected by the shuttering of the Delta plant, which makes frozen griddle products for the North American grocery market, in early 2018.

The Battle Creek facility, meanwhile, will see its workforce drop from about 160 to 60 starting in January. The Michigan plant produces ready-to-eat cereal for the grocery market.

The company also reported lower-than-expected financial results for the third quarter of the year and cut its projections for the full year. Reuters reported that shares of the company slid by more than 20 percent in the wake of the earnings report.
