Jaguar Land Rover recently announced the first partnership between an automaker and tracking app Tile in an effort to make forgotten wallets and other items "a thing of the past."
Tile, launched in 2014, allows users to attach small tile-shaped devices to everyday items, then track them via a smartphone using a Bluetooth signal.
The British automaker's 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport incorporates Tile in an in-car entertainment system for the first time.
The app would be initiated using the SUV's central touchscreen, and drivers can establish a list of essential items that would be automatically tracked whenever the app is activated.
If those items are not in the vehicle, the user would be alerted and could receive directions to its last known location.
Users would also be able to sound a 90-decibel alarm on the item if it is lost inside the vehicle.
"We're really excited to be partnering with Jaguar Land Rover," Tile CEO Mike Farley said in a statement. "We believe this integration will provide many benefits such as improved assurance and peace of mind about the whereabouts of essential items, helping drivers save time before they embark on journeys."
Jaguar Land Rover also said that the new Discovery Sport also includes a variety of additional technology upgrades, including sensors to recognize lane markings and speed limits and a system that alerts the driver if it detects signs of fatigue.
