Johnson & Johnson faces another massive penalty over links between its talcum powder and cancer.

The Associated Press reports that a St. Louis jury on Monday awarded $55 million to Gloria Ristesund, one of dozens to file claims against the New Jersey pharmaceutical and consumer products giant in Missouri court.

Ristesund, who blamed her ovarian cancer on Johnson & Johnson's talcum powder products, was the second plaintiff to receive monetary damages of the nearly 60 Missouri cases.

The decision follows a $72 million verdict awarded in February to the family of an Alabama woman who died of ovarian cancer last fall.

Overall, more than 1,000 people nationwide filed lawsuits related to talcum powder against Johnson & Johnson. Reports suggested that the company continued to market its products — particularly to minority women — despite decades of warning signs.

Johnson & Johnson argued that its products are safe and disputed any links to ovarian cancer. The company plans to appeal both St. Louis verdicts.
