A new liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal will provide needed gas for ships and industrial complexes in Finland.
Natural gas burns cleaner than other common fuels, and will therefore be able to help facilities meet emissions regulations in the Baltic Sea and Nordics areas.
The liquid natural gas terminal is run by SkanGas, a large supplier of small-scale LNG in Nordic countries. They partnered with Honeywell to bring facility management software to the project. The terminal, which will have a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters, is expected to be ready to run in the second half of 2016.
Honeywell, which runs natural gas import and export terminals around the world, will provide its Experion Process Knowledge System automation controls and tank gauging system for Finland’s natural gas. It will also contribute the Enterprise Buildings Integrator, an intelligent building network that connects the power, security, and other technology systems within the facility. Spanish engineering company FCC Industrial E. Infraestructuras Energeticas S.A.U. will provide the tanks on which Honeywell’s tank gauging systems will be used.
"Demand for LNG in Finland continues to rise for industrial, shipping and heavy-duty land transport companies," said Tommy Mattila, sales and marketing director at SkanGas, in a press release.
Honeywell’s Terminal Manager automates the operations at the terminal, including monitoring and controlling product receipt, gate access control, and loading. The Enterprise buildings Integrator also coordinates a safety manager, the SmartRadar FlexLine radar tank gauges for tank inventory control and farm management, and a portable Enraf tank terminal, which enables access and reading of tank gauges regardless of weather or operating conditions.
