Officials say a single-engine aircraft has crashed while landing at the Experimental Aircraft Association convention in eastern Wisconsin.

EAA spokesman Dick Knapinski says five people were on board the Piper Meridian when it went down on a runway at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Knapinski says several people got out of the plane, but he's not sure about the extent of any injuries.

Oshkosh firefighters were on the scene because of smoke resulting from the crash.

Knapinski says the airport has been temporarily closed.
