Norfolk Southern says more than 20,000 gallons of lube oil spilled after a freight train was struck from behind by another train traveling in the same direction in western Virginia.

Norfolk Southern spokeswoman Susan Terpay says the oil spilled from one of 18 cars that derailed around 4 p.m. Tuesday. Some scrap metal spilled from another derailed car.

Terpay said Wednesday that the oil has been contained at the site of the accident near Dublin.

She says eight rear cars on the first train and 10 cars on the second train derailed. The second train's locomotive also went off the tracks.

She says two crew members were treated at a local hospital for injuries and were released.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
