NAM: Ozone Regulation Will Hamper Growth And Opportunity

Manufacturers expressed fear that the proposed regulation would delay new construction.

National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Vice President of Energy and Resources Policy Ross Eisenberg testified at a joint House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade and Subcommittee on Energy and Power hearing, titled “EPA’s Proposed Ozone Rule: Potential Impacts on Manufacturing.”

During the hearing, manufacturers, businesses and stakeholders expressed a growing fear that the proposed regulation would delay new construction, limiting economic opportunity and job growth.

“This is not a balanced policy. This is not an achievable rule,” said Eisenberg. “We surveyed our members, and over 66 percent of manufacturers are concerned with how new ozone standards will impact their business. More than half said they are unlikely to move forward with projects in ozone nonattainment areas. But don’t just take it from us. Take it from the hundreds of governors, lieutenant governors, environmental agencies, air directors, attorneys general, mayors, counties, highway officials, state representatives, local development officials, chambers of commerce and industry groups who have sent letters to the EPA or the White House asking for the current standard to remain in place.”
