Chinese telecommunications company Huawei on Wednesday announced a new operating system to help connect household and business devices to the Internet.
The company said its LiteOS software is faster and more energy efficient than other Internet of Things systems despite comprising only 10 kilobytes.
Huawei officials said the software and "Agile IoT" architecture would allow designers to freely create connected devices or enable business equipment to be connected wirelessly.
The IoT market already includes companies from Google, Apple and Facebook to Microsoft and IBM as analysts predict sharp increases the number of connected devices.
Huawei, for one, expects 100 billion devices to be connected by 2025, with a majority in transportation, manufacturing and logistics.
"Standardizing infrastructure will foster the development of Internet applications, including IoT applications," William Xu, Huawei's chief strategy and marketing officer, said according to Reuters.
