A Louisiana chemical company plans to sell a central Pennsylvania plant that makes fertilizer additives and other products.
The Albemarle Corp. plant in Tyrone will be sold along with another in South Haven, Michigan.
The Baton Rouge, Louisiana firm tells the Altoona Mirror that it plans to keep both plants open, and expects both will continue to operate similarly under new owners.
The plant in Tyrone, about 100 miles east of Pittsburgh, has 150 full-time, and 22 contract employees.
The plant is located in the Tyrone Industrial Park, where Albemarle and its predecessor companies have been in the park since 1975.
The company spent $8 million expanding the plant in 2012, but now says it wants to focus on its core businesses involving bromine, lithium and other chemicals and surface treatments.
